The Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating the disappearance of a 48-year-old woman in the Cape Breton community of Big Bras D’Or.

In a release, the RCMP said police responded to a possible homicide at a home on Old Route 5 in Big Bras D’Or Wednesday.

“RCMP officers learned that Natasha Leroy, 48, had disappeared and, the circumstances around her disappearance were suspicious,” it said.

It said police have spent the last two days gathering information and evidence, and a search warrant has been executed at the home.

“The Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit is in contact with Natasha’s family and supports are being offered,” the release said.

Cape Breton Regional Police, as well as RCMP forensic identification services, the Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit, and the Victoria County District RCMP are also helping with the investigation.
